Should you buy high end test equipment?

New members of Contextual Electronics and people learning electronics often ask me if they should be buying expensive test gear. I don't think so. Instead, I think you should focus on getting started with lower end equipment and using it to its limits before deciding to upgrade to high resolution or speed models. The important thing is to focus on the methods of measurement and troubleshooting, not getting bogged down with the specs of the gear you're using.
